Restaurant "Zum Volksgarten" Zons Dormagen near Düsseldorf -
where history meets taste

In Zons, a town on the banks of the Rhine steeped in history, people have always appreciated the art of living. The town, which enjoyed special privileges for centuries, was once an important customs fortress. As early as 1373, Zons was elevated to the status of a town – a sign of its importance at the time. The prosperity of the region was reflected in the magnificent design of the town gates, the town centre and the representative town houses.

Despite numerous challenges such as wars, sieges and plague epidemics, the historic town centre of Zons has been impressively preserved. With its completely intact town wall and the two striking town gates, Zons is one of the most important sights on the Lower Rhine today. The charming old town centre, which officially belongs to the town of Dormagen, attracts visitors from near and far at any time of year.

Anyone entering the old town through the Rhine Gate – one of the two historic city gates – will discover the restaurant “Zum Volksgarten” Zons Dormagen near Düsseldorf directly in front of it, accompanied by the neighboring 4-star hotel “Schloss Friedestrom”. This is where history and pleasure meet and invite you to linger.

Restaurant "Zum Volksgarten" -
Indulgence in a historic setting

Not only the history of the town, but also the history of the inn is long and impressive. There has been a pub here since at least 1842, and the Hahn family later turned the restaurant into one of the town’s gastronomic attractions. In the restaurant “Zum Volksgarten” Zons Dormagen near Cologne, just a few meters from the Rhine, you could already enjoy a stylish meal 100 years ago, and were served Lower Rhine specialities, fresh mussels (which were transported here on the Rhine) and, of course, Altbier and Kölsch beer. The tradition continues to this day, even though Marion and Bart Allard decided in 1997 to build a new hotel and restaurant to replace the previous building, which had collapsed after a fire. One that tastefully incorporates the old architectural style.
